Minnesota’s Al Franken Cuts Joe Lieberman Off

2009 December 18

I didn’t vote for him, but I am proud that he is the senator from Minnesota.  My Senator.

Keep it up, Al. You’ve got my vote next time around.

Update

Looks like John McCain objected to Al Franken refusing to grant Joe Lieberman an extra moment, saying “I’ve been around here 20-some years. First time I’ve ever seen a member denied an extra minute or two to finish his remarks. … I just haven’t seen it before myself. And I don’t like it.”

O_RLY__Owl_Emoticon_by_jaredmO RLY?, Senator McCain?  Because the Congressional Record shows that you did exactly the same thing to Mark Dayton on October 10, 2002:

The PRESIDING OFFICER. The Senator’s time has expired.

Mr. DAYTON. I ask for unanimous consent that I have 30 seconds more to finish my remarks.

Mr. McCAIN. I object.

Hypocrisy, ain’t it grand?

An unrelated note to Senator McCain:  If you can preface your remarks with “I’ve been around here 20-some years…” maybe it’s time to stop casting yourself as a political “maverick.”

Update #2

Interestingly, the video footage of McCain cutting Senator Dayton off is *missing* from the CSPAN archives.  Rachel Maddow reports, complete with an in-studio re-enactment, based on the transcript.
